Biography

Karen was born in Soldotna, Alaska and spent her youth on the Kenai Peninsula before moving to Juneau in middle school. She began working in the legal field in 1984 as a legal secretary and office manager after attending college in Oregon and Alaska. After working at firms in both Juneau and Anchorage, she joined Baxter Bruce & Brand in 1994 as a legal assistant in the family law section.

After leaving the firm to focus on family needs, Karen continued her paralegal work with several local family law attorneys. In 2003, Karen added part time work for Juneau’s Small Business Development Center, developing and teaching small business courses and working closely with local business leaders on small business events. While there, Karen was nationally honored as Alaska’s State Star for her program development efforts.

Karen eventually returned to full time legal work, first with the State of Alaska’s Department of Commerce, then finally rejoining Baxter Bruce & Sullivan in 2018. With over 30 years of experience in law, Karen is committed to assisting clients with compassion and clarity while they navigate the often-stressful process of divorce.

Karen is married and a mother of 6 (2 children and 4 stepchildren). She deeply appreciates the beauty of Alaska’s great outdoors and when she isn’t working, Karen enjoys photography, music, writing, and spending time with her husband cooking, entertaining, camping, and traveling.
